Easy Feeling

The gel printing plate is a relatively new phenomenon in the art community.  A gel surface allows for  a simple printing process without an expensive, bulky press.  The gel plate releases the paint/ink easily and allows only a single print and, perhaps, a  "ghost"print. Every artwork is unique -- a mono print.

How I do it:   I cover the gel plate with a layer of acrylic  paint and add texture and marks with anything handy. I then pull the background print. From there I cover the plate with additional - hopefully contrasting - colors and additional marks, masks, textures, pray and do a second pull.  Only occasionally do I get a print that I'm completely happy with, so I get creative with ink, colored pencils and acrylic paint.  When I'm happy with the completed vision,  I mount the finished piece onto a cradled wood panel or canvas and add a protective coat of varnish.  VOILA!

I love the luminous textures the gel plate adds.  Experimentation will continue...
